Oprah Winfrey once said: “The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.” Knowing these words came from Oprah already puts your mind to work, right?
Using a whiff of sarcasm, she proposes that the road towards a happy life is easy. But where does this road start? Exactly, with you! Your perspective determines the unique emotional lens through which moments, places, and persons are perceived. It determines the experience of your entire life. It won’t surprise you, but this is exactly the reason why positive mindsets are key.
Let me tell you some good news, mindsets are trainable! Creating positive subjective experiences is a new path in modern psychology, named positive psychology. Drozd and his collegues tested whether an internet-intervention called ‘Better Days’ could improve everyday life and enhance well-being. During a 13-session training, one-hundred and twelve participants with an average age of 30 followed the ‘Better Days’ intervention and learned about topics as gratitude, engagement, character strength, optimism, mindfulness, and flow. And guess what, these online sessions improved their happiness! After the intervention, these participants experienced a higher balance of positive to negative emotions compared to the control group. It is really possible to increase your positive emotions! Will you also enter the road towards Better Days?
